As the single highest selling smartphone in the world, Apple’s iPhone reigns supreme in the smartphone market. Just like their iconic MacBook laptop and iMac all-in-one desktop systems, which have been setting trends in the computer market for more than a decade now, the iPhone is a trend setter. However, one of the most divisive questions in the smartphone market, aside from the choice between iOS and Android, is whether or not to use a case for your phone. While other manufacturers have not taken a firm stance against cases, some have even released their own cases for their phones. Apple, on the other hand, has always been adamantly anti-case.
This may seem contradictory considering the fact that Apple actually sells silicone and leather cases for their own phones and has been doing so for many years. This year, Apple has even updated their own leather cases for the iPhone 7 by adding color-matched aluminum volume buttons. In addition to that, there are thousands of other designer cases available for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus owners to choose from.
Jet Black is the new Black
Apple’s sudden shift in perspective on cases is due to the introduction of a particular new color with the iPhone 7 – Jet Black. Apple enthusiasts may have already guessed that this color has become the most popular among iPhone users. For the first time, Apple recommends using a designer case for the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus. Well, they technically suggest using any case, but they hope you’ll choose one of theirs. The reason behind this recommendation is that the surfaces of the Jet Black iPhones are incredibly smooth and shiny, making them prone to scratches. Apple has even coined their own marketing term for these scratches – “micro abrasions”. So, if you want to keep your Jet Black iPhone 7 free from fingerprints, scratches, and “micro abrasions”, it’s best to invest in one of Apple’s cases or opt for a designer case from a third-party.
Why Jet Black?
The more logical individuals among you might be asking why bother choosing a specific iPhone color if you have to cover it with a case. However, that is just too logical and reasonable. Apple fans have already flocked to purchase the Jet Black iPhone 7, and early stocks of this color in both the iPhone 7 and the larger iPhone 7 Plus are already sold out. This is despite the fact that the Jet Black option is only available in the more expensive 128 GB versions of the new iPhones. Clearly, the real winners in this situation are the case makers.
