Ya know, these days, it seems like everyone and their grandma has a cell phone. And that ain’t necessarily a bad thing. Cell phones come with some pretty sweet perks. But with that comes a little thing called responsibility. That’s right, folks, there’s something called cell phone etiquette, and unfortunately, not everyone seems to have gotten the memo.
Now, let’s talk about one of the biggest offenders when it comes to bad cell phone etiquette. You’ve probably experienced it yourself. People yellin’ into their phones like there’s no tomorrow. It’s like they think they need to project their voice to the moon and back just to be heard. And let me tell ya, it’s not a pleasant experience for those of us unfortunate enough to be within earshot. I mean, seriously, folks. Can’t we find a better way to communicate without disturbing the peace?
But before we go pointing fingers, let’s try to understand why people feel the need to holler into their cell phones. It’s actually pretty simple, if you think about it. You see, old school landline phones had this fancy mechanism where your voice got amplified when it traveled from the receiver to the earpiece. So, when you spoke into a landline phone, you heard your own voice nice and clear in your ear. It’s kinda like how a DJ hears himself in headphones when he’s talkin’ into a mic. But with cell phones, it’s a whole different ballgame. Your voice ain’t gettin’ that same boost when it travels to the earpiece. So all you’re hearin’ is the sound of your own mouth blabberin’ away. And let me tell ya, the volume difference between that and sound comin’ outta a phone speaker pressed against your ear is like night and day, my friends.
Now, I get it. Cell phones are still relatively new in the grand scheme of things. Unless you’re a whippersnapper, you probably grew up in a world where landline phones reigned supreme. So it’s only natural that you’ve carried over some of them ol’ habits when you made the switch to cell phones. But let’s not forget that not everyone wants to hear your vocal cords workin’ overtime. Just like you don’t wanna hear them yappin’ away at the top of their lungs. So when you’re chattin’ away on that cell phone, remember to use your inside voice, like you’re havin’ a nice little conversation with the person standin’ right next to ya.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ there’s gonna come a day when cell phone companies miraculously decide to amp up the sound on these magical gadgets and make ’em more like landline phones. Nah, that ain’t gonna happen. Cell phones are here to stay, my friends. So it’s up to all of us to step up our game and practice some good ol’ cell phone manners. Let’s make the world a little less noisy, one cell phone call at a time.
