When ya start makin’ soap and ya get them bars down pat, some folks like to whip up some liquid soap. Liquid soap is a sweet alternative to them sometimes messy bars. With liquid soap, ain’t no soap scum buildin’ up to fuss with, and no hard soap to gotta clean off the dang counter. Findin’ time to tidy up after yer family can be hard enough without havin’ to clean up after soap.
Makin’ liquid soap ain’t nearly as tough as ya mighta thought. There’s actually lotsa ways ya can make liquid soap, some trickier than others. One of the easiest ways is to melt down a bar of soap. All liquid soap is, is a bar of soap with extra water added to it. When pickin’ the bar to use, it’s best to go fer one without a buncha colors and fragrances. I reckon them things can irritate yer skin and make it dry and flaky. A pure castile bar of soap would be mighty fine as the main ingredient in it is olive oil, which is known to nourish yer skin.
All ya really need to make this simple liquid soap is a bar of soap, some water, a stove and pot, and last but not least, a glass heat resistant measurin’ cup. Of course, if ya wanna add fragrances, vitamins or any other additives, ya gotta have them on hand too. To get started makin’ yer liquid soap, all ya gotta do is grate or cube yer bar of soap. Once that’s done, add the grated or cubed soap to the glass measurin’ cup with an equal amount of water. Most bars of soap weigh ’round four ounces, so ya wanna add in four ounces of water. If ya got a bar weighin’ six ounces, add six ounces of water, and so on.
Now, with the soap and water in the heat resistant glass measurin’ cup, place the cup inside a pot that’s ’bout half full of water. Turn the stove on a low heat settin’ so ya can gently melt the soap. Get that water heated up ’til it’s nearly at a boil, but not quite. Once the soap is one smooth liquid, with no separation of the soap and water, ya can take the cup outta the pot. If ya don’t wanna add any other stuff to yer soap, ya can remove it from the cup and put it in whatever container ya prefer.
I personally like to add some extras to my soap to give it some antibacterial power and soften up my skin. Even them fancy bar soaps out there can leave yer skin feelin’ a tad dry, so I like to add some vitamins to mine. Ya can just grab some vitamin A and E gel caps and empty ’em out into the soap. ‘Bout three or four of ’em oughta do the trick. If ya want, ya can add more, but that’s my recommend amount. Also, if ya wanna get some natural antibacterial action in yer soap, ya can simply add some eucalyptus, tea tree, or even grapefruit oil. It’s a natural alternative to them harsh chemicals. When I add in them oils, I usually use ’round ten to twelve drops, total.
This here soap is somethin’ ya can give as gifts or just have for yer own family to use. And the cool thing ’bout makin’ liquid soap is that it’s exactly what ya wanted. Ya can use this soap and know exactly what’s in it.
